Collaborating (and Coloring) Outside the Lines

By: Nikki Dautremont, Designer II

The numbers alone can’t capture all that’s gone into this coloring book wall, but they definitely make a statement. So what exactly goes into creating a 27 foot by 4 foot coloring wall? Of course the standard blood, sweat and tears, but also a lot of hard work, pizza parties, passion, team bonding and so much more.

It all started with a t-shirt design competition for the Creative team, now known as Enova Studios. Chris Vance’s custom illustrated shirt (featured in the video below) won out amongst all the other designs of dinos, tacos, hot sauce and graffiti art (What can I say? We’re a creative bunch). The design inspired us enough that when we were approached by the CEO of Enova to pitch ideas for additional office signage to liven up the space, it was almost a no-brainer that we turn Chris’s idea of custom illustration into an interactive coloring wall for the whole office.

The concept was immediately approved and the team quickly started to illustrate, scan, vectorize and arrange the composition of the wall art. Timelines moved, workloads were shifted, and a mad dash to draw enough illustrations to fit the entire 27 foot wall in a short time-frame was accomplished. The results are beyond what anyone could expect. View our video below to follow the journey of how we got there.
